Calls

Why do people call me? I wish I could turn off that feature on my phone. I don’t want someone to call and expect me to tap, seriously?! I think I’ve complained about this before. If I have you now know how much it drives me crazy. I won’t answer. However, my husband will if he hears my phone and he will say she’s right here listening to, go ahead. (If you could see my face, it is annoyed, eyes rolling).
When I was first learning sign I was with a group on zoom that felt it was rude to the deaf in the group to use headphones. Why? They felt because they couldn’t hear you were reminding them that you could hear and they couldn’t. Now I was new to the culture and didn’t question it. However, I thought they know people can hear, I would think it’s more offensive to pretend they can’t. And I’m mute are you not going to talk so you don’t offend me? It didn’t seem reasonable to me and still doesn’t.
That being said, calling me personally on the phone when you know I can’t talk, different. So, just text!
